To become a Home Health Aide (HHA) in California, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Required Training:

    • Enroll in a 40-hour Home Health Aide Training Program if you already have a Nurse Assistant certification. Alternatively, complete a 120-hour Home Health Aide Training Program if starting from scratch. The training programs are approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
  2. Submit an Application:

    • Apply for certification through the CDPH. This involves filling out the necessary forms and providing documentation of your completed training.
  3. Pass a Background Check:

    • Submit your fingerprints and pass a criminal background check through the Live Scan system. This is a crucial step to ensure eligibility.
  4. Register with the Home Care Aide Registry:

    • Register on the California Home Care Aide Registry by creating an account and completing the application. You will need to pay a registration fee of $35 and can do this online via the Guardian Applicant Portal.
  5. Renewal:
